blunt

なまる【鈍る】

にぶる【鈍る】

1 〔鋭さを失う〕 become [grow] dull; become blunt.

●錆びて切れ味が鈍ったナイフを研ぐ sharpen a knife that has rusted and become blunt [been blunted by rust].

2 〔弱まる〕 weaken; be weakened; decline; slow down; tail off.

●決心が鈍る become less resolved; waver in one's resolution

・友人たちに反対されて彼は決心が鈍った. His determination weakened when his friends opposed him. | His friends' opposition shook his determination.

・練習をさぼると腕が鈍るぞ. If you don't keep up your training, you'll lose your touch.

・往年の奪三振王も腕が鈍ったものだ. Even the strikeout king of the past is not as good as he used to be.

・心配事があると勘も鈍る. When you're worried, your intuition fails.

・彼は年を取って記憶力[判断力]が鈍ったようだ. Since he has got older, it seems his memory [judgment] has declined.

・客足が鈍ったのは休場力士が多いせいだ. Spectators have fallen off because so many wrestlers have withdrawn from the tournament.
